Artists in Schools programs are a priority for the arts council. Artists in Residence in past years included Michael Klee, percussionist and Norris Chee, Navajo artist, in all three Butler County school systems during October. In October, which is Nat’l. Arts and Humanities Month, at least two artists will do residencies in the three county schools. Native American artist Steve Tamayo will draw upon his family history as a member of the Sicangu Lakota tribe through regalia making and lectures about Native customs. Valerie Williams will bring her talents in creative dance to the area students. This year’s other artists-in-the-schools are yet to be determined. These events are made possible thanks to the sup- port of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment and the Butler County Area Foundation Fund.
